Folio (290198 mm). (16), (1)-62, (1)-21, (1 blank) ll., (1)-212, (30) ll. Two title leaves with engraved printer´s devices, 63 engraved half-page maps (lacking the full-page world map, a few with foxing and staining), woodcut diagrams, initials and printed illustrations in first part.
Contemporary vellum, worn, spine with gilt title on red leather label, upper cover damaged in lower part, partly warped covers, redspeckled edges. Title to part I with new margin (old paper) to outer margin, small hole to inner margin and some minor staining. A few loose leaves in the beginning, some leaves in the beginning with minor holes or dampstaining to inner margin, some leaves strengthened in inner margin. Three leaves mended in upper outer corner, 1 leaf trimmed with no loss, some foxing and marginal dampstaining. Some notes in pencil on inside of cover.

First Italian edition of Magini´s Ptolemy. This edition was translated from Latin by Leonardo Cernoti, followed by the commentary of Magini, and an extensive index. Part II gives us 27 maps of the world as Ptolemy knew it, followed by 36 maps, engraved by Girolamo Porro, of the world as it was known to Magini.
Magini´s edition of Ptolemy originally appeared in Venice 1596.
Lacking the full-page engraved double hemisphaere world map "Orbis terrae compendiosa descriptio".
