8:o. (7), viii-xvi, (1)-624 pp. Engraved frontispiece portrait (some foxing), 39 engraved plates Phiz (H. K. Browne, all, some offsetting from text to plates, some foxing). Extra inserted 2 original drawings in ink and wash by Phiz, one signed, one with watermark dated 1838.
Later (early 20th century) red morocco, gilt borders, gilt inner borders, gilt edges of covers, richly gilt spine in six compartments, upper edge gilt, otherwise uncut. (bound by Riviere & Son). First book edition.
Also preserved covers and spine from the original cloth binding.
