4:o (c. 260x200 mm.). (34), (1)-417, (1 blank) pp. 42 engraved folding maps, plans and plates (1 with tear in the fold and mended marginal tear, 2 worn in the margins, partly with offsetting from text, minor foxing). Later (19th century) brown half lether, worn, some crack in upper joint, slightly faded spine with blindstamped decorations in six compartments, some small damages at head and foot. Some offsetting from plates to text, some foxing. Old signature on title, the same signature on first endpaper, bookplate.
First edition first issue with p. 319 misnumbered p. 219.
Out of a fleet of eight vessels, whose mission was to harass the Spanish and plunder their galleons and settlements after Britain declared war on Spain in 1740, only Anson´s ship the Centurion managed to complete the mission and return to Britain in 1744, after successfully having attacked a gold- and silverladened Spanish galleon approaching Manila.
