Manuel de Almeida (1580-1646), Jesuit, worked in Ethiopia as ambassador for his order, until the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1633. Emanuel Diaz (1559-1639) served in China, from where fathers Baldinotti and Piani were sent as a mission (probably the first) to Tonkin in 1626.
