GUTENBERG. INCUNABULA LEAF. 1 fol. on vellum from Johannes Balbus (Balbus de Janua): Catholicon, Mainz (Johann Gutenberg?) 1460.
Leaf printed in red and black, 2 columns with 66 lines. Printed area about 270x180 mm, total area about 355x215 mm. Worming, worn in the margins, darkened, verso very darkened and nearly unreadable.

Catholicon was a religious latin dictionary completed in 1286 by Johannes Balbus. For this monumental work of 373 folio leaves, Gutenberg made a smaller printing type called Gotico Antiqua. Some researchers claim Catholicon was printed in 1469 or 1472.
