CHARLES XII - LARGE COLLECTION OF PLATES AND MAPS FROM FABER'S WORK.

43 double-page engraved plates and maps from about 1700-1720, sizes about 300x410 mm. Plates complete for the atlas of the work by Samuel Faber, Ausführliche Lebens-Beschreibung des Carl des XII, published in Nürnberg, Frankfurt and Leipzig, 1702-17.
Showing battles from the wars of Charles XII, and his campaigns is Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltics and Poland. Some plates with 2 engravings, sometimes with the other one upside down (all plates unfolded, 1 loosely inserted, [variant of plate 4], some minor spotting or soiling, some minor repairs, mostly to centrefolds or margins, minor pencil notes to most margins, some notes on verso).
Renovated half calf in small folio, c. 345x240 mm, partly rubbed, new endpapers, partly warped covers, richly gilt spine decorated with small crowns, pink and green title labels, red edges (Östermalms bindery).

The pencil notes often refers to Snoilsky, Historiska bilder (=Historical Images), with the abbrevation "Sn". Plates were amongst others engraved by Johan Lithén, nobled Litheim (1663-1725), officer of fortification, helped Erik Dahlberg in both matters regarding fortification and drawings to the important work Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, also followed Charles XII and made many drawings of fortresses.
