With the theme Female Artists – 150 Years of Creativity, Stockholms Auktionsverk helps to correct the imbalance that has long plagued art history. Nearly 100 works are presented, all created by female artists—with one exception. Girl on Horseback by Sterett-Gittings Kelsey is an exquisite bronze sculpture.

Many names will, of course, be familiar. Here, you will find works by Anna Palm de Rosa, Agnes Cleve, Maja Fjaestad, Gerda Wallander, Endis Bergström, and Josefina Holmlund, to name just a few. But this selection also includes pieces by artists less frequently seen on the auction market. Alma Arnell, Anne Charlotte Sjöberg, and Ruth Bogren are just some examples.

Ester Henning’s vibrant, tightly composed still life stands out, as does Vera Frizén’s richly toned landscape. And what can one say about the priest’s gaze in Adelaïde Leuhusen’s 1910 oil painting? Quite enigmatic, wouldn’t you agree?
