For over twenty years, Borgila has remained true to the uncompromising standards of quality set from the very beginning.Rarely is this often-overused word—quality—more justified than in this context. The passion for excellence that founder Erik Fleming so consistently embodied has been passed on to the skilled team working in the Borgila workshop. In every step of the process—whether it be raising, soldering, or chasing—there is a palpable desire to create something of enduring value.

To fully appreciate Borgila’s significance on the modern Swedish silver market, Åke Stavenow’s overview of Swedish silversmithing, published in Konsthantverk och hemslöjd i Sverige 1930–1940, is illuminating. There, we find a portrait of the firm’s founder, Erik Fleming, and his uncompromising vision of silver as a form of fine art. Stavenow also highlights Fleming’s deep inspiration from 18th-century masters—something clearly reflected in the theme presented now by Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5.

Under the title Swedish Private Collection: Borgila, a well-curated selection from the firm’s catalogue is offered. Several pieces stem from the 1930s—a decade that left a strong impression on Åke Stavenow—such as a classically inspired spoon from 1934. Other works are contemporary, made during the 2000s. A pair of sterling silver cocktail glasses from 1952 illustrates a masterful balance between the delicate elegance of the 18th century and the full bloom of Scandinavian modernism. Alongside refined hollowware, several cutlery designs are included—each as pleasing to the eye as to the hand.
