GERMAN POCKET GLOBE. Pocket globe, 40 mm (c. 1,5 inches), marked M P S., Nuremberg (?), c. 1850-60, the sphere applied with 12 printed engraved gores on a wooden core, in red-orange fish-skin covered cylindrical box. Place names in German, Australia called "Neu Holland" and Tasmania labelled V. Diemens l. Marked MPS within a circular cartouche in the Southern Ocean.
Globe partly browned and worn, 2 minor damages, 1 about 5 mm at the South pole, a few scratches.
ett jack at Asia, about 1 cm, intryckt, some loss, browned, box worn and soiled, most probably not original.
MPS (Marke Polar Sterne) is probably a trademark used by the Bauer family, globe makers in Nürnberg.
