GRAF, URS (1485 Solothurn - Basel 1527). 2 large woodcuts from the Passion of Christ. Strasbourg, Johann Knoblouch, 1506.
2 woodcuts (no 8, Judas bargaining with the chief priest and no 13, The elders and The Mocking of Christ, Judas returning of the Silver), signed and with inscriptions. Both partly hand-coloured (one with green, one with brick-red), c. 220 x 160 mm., laid paper, monogrammed VG at lower centre (no 13 with a few minor spots, small hole in the middle, small brown spot on the right borderline, small wormhole at lower centre, both with some soiling to margins). German text on verso. Both mounted by upper edge under passe-partout.
Both woodcuts from the series of 26 woodcuts showing images of the Passion of Christ ("Der Text des Passions oder Lijdens Christi"), 25 of which by Urs Graf and one by Hans Wechtlin, with German letterpress with rubication, translated by Johann Geiler from the Latin of Matthias Ringmann, printed in Strasbourg, Knoblouch, 1506.
