Hand-coloured engraved map with three cartouches and large sailing ships. Latin text on verso, number C. About 360x500 mm. Engraved by Jan Wierix. Some soiling to margins, minor repair to margin of centrefold. Framed.

From Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, first published in the 1595 edition. "Note the elaborate ship just left of the cartouche. It represents state-of-the-art shipbuilding, not of Greek or Roman antiquity, but of the Low Countries towards the end of the 16th century". (Van den Broecke).
